Sustainable Building Methods

Artisanworks is  licensed, bonded and insured for general contracting. From the beginning, we have held a conscious attitude toward sustainable building. Our practice has been to explore many of these alternative methods and create an unbiased opinion towards them. Not all “green” products and systems are green, and we strive to find the truth in them to better help our clients make quality, valuable choices.

Randy attended a 9 month course in sustainable building advisement and is a certified Earth Advantage green remodeler.

We are knowledgeable and experienced in these products and building systems:

  • Reclaimed timber
  • Smart Framing  ( using minimal amount of lumber through efficient  design ) using FSC lumber
  • Recycled materials
  • Straw bale construction
  • ICF  ( Insulated concrete forms )
  • SIPS Panels ( Structurally insulated panels )
  • Flooring – Cork, Marmoleum, recycled lumber
  • No/low VOC chemicals and paints

Smaller is Better

We like to promote small structures and homes, as you can get a lot more for the money in terms of a higher quality house, savings in energy costs, and less time cleaning and maintaining. A separate structure outside of the main living space is a great way to go, as you can leave the TV, ringing phone and family noises behind to a quiet backyard retreat. Think of a space to be used for yoga, meditation, writing, art, home office,  fishing/hunting cabin, playhouse, music room, etc. If the structure is under 200 sq. feet, it can be built hassle free with no permits.
